So when the bride to be suggested Hollywood Boulevard for their engagment shoot I was so excited! The combination of grit and glamour, the old Hollywood architecture mixed with the flash of Hollywood and Highland made a perfect backdrop for a very sexy, sunset shoot.  We had an absolute ball working the boulevard...and turned more than just a few heads in the process. And when you are competing with a multitude of costumed characters, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and human "statues," that is not so easy to do!  I can't wait for the wedding!

The day was absolutely gorgeous at the Fairmont Miramar, and the guys got ready at the Huntley across the street which is always such a great spot. We took a little detour after the ceremony to the cliff overlooking the ocean and Santa Monica Pier and then headed back to the Fairmont Miramar for a fabulous party. Dana did a spectacular job, of course, and the whole day was just perfect!

While editing the photos I just really started loving the black and white for this one...I am a little obsessed with black and white at the moment. I have another couple who is doing their entire wedding album in black and white right now and it is going to be spectacular.

We had such a ball doing this shoot that I can't wait to shoot the wedding at the fabulous Bel-Air Bay Club in the fall...in both color and black and white of course!

We had such a fun day doing that shoot that I knew the wedding would be amazing. I have to say that, first of all, how much do I love a groom that wants to shoot pictures with the guys in a laundromat and liquor store? Plus, Sarah Porcaro at Love in LA Events did such a beautiful job with all of the delicious details that it was an absolute delight to capture. One of my favorite moments came at the very end of the night (which is why I ALWAYS stay 'till the end...I don't want to miss a thing). Billy and the guys got up on stage and did a full on performance, topped off by him serenading Terren stage side...how can you top that ending to a perfect day!

I have been overwhelmed by the positive response to my digital SLR workshops for Moms and Dads (and other people, too). I've created a wonderful four-hour crash course where I not only teach you how to use that fabulous digital SLR, but also how to have a more artistic sensibility about photographing your kids. THE ONE-DAY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Finally got that cool camera? Splurged for a fabulous digital SLR? Getting
frustrated because you don't really know how to take advantage of all of its
features? Do you just want to learn a few simple techniques to take amazing
pictures of your kids?  Want to shoot in a mode other than Auto?

This four-hour basics session will drastically improve the relationship you have with your
camera - not to mention the photos you take with it and will teach you how to capture amazing moments of your kids in a variety of situations!

The workshop will cover all the basics and beyond, including:

1. Fundamentals: How to use your camera and take advantage of aperture, shutter
speed and ISO speed adjustments to get those really amazing shots.

2. Go toward the light! After all, it is all about lighting, so we will learn
simple tricks to find magical light that differentiates an artistic photograph
from a snapshot.

3. Finding your Artistic Eye: We talk at great length about composition and finding your own personal style and using the camera to not just take a picture, but rather tell a story and capture both beautiful images and emotional content.

4. Tips and Tricks: Learn to apply all of the above to your real life photo situations: how to get the best shots at ballet recitals, basketball games, indoor and outdoor sports, group shots at large family gatherings and whatever else you can come up with!

One of my favorite things about this family, in particular, is that we always try to find a new and different location. The first year we did theshoot at their home, the next year we found an estate in Pasadena, followed by Pershing Square and the Biltmore downtown (which you can see here) to last year in Griffith Park and finally this year at Malibu Pier! It's just so much fun to mix it up.

 I love shooting at Malibu Pier as it reminds me of the beaches where I grew up in New England - navy blue and white and rugged piers jutting out over the ocean. How can you go wrong? Add in a little marine layer fog and a gorgeous family and my job is a breeze!

So jumping back to JUNE (dropped the blogging ball somewhere over the summer, clearly) - I had the pure pleasure of photographing Lizzy and Avram's wedding at the Sephardic Temple in Los Angeles. It was absolutely beautiful as the event was perfectly planned and coordinated by Erin Adams of Contagious! Weddings and Events.  I am also always thrilled to work with the fun and talented Jackie Combs Floral Design as well as one of my absolute favorite makeup artists, Zulica Kessell.

The day was gorgeous, as you can see here, and Lizzy and Avram are clearly so perfect for each other. One of my favorites moments at an Orthodox wedding is when the groom is led out of the tisch to the bedeken to veil the bride - there are always such beautiful images to capture. I just love the look on Lizzy's face right after Avram places the veil over her face, pure joy!

So I have this thing about fog. I LOVE shooting in the fog, especially at the beach. One of my favorite weddings last year at the Beach Club here had this delicious fog that rolled in right after the ceremony. In this case, we headed to Manhattan Beach and the Venice Canals nice and early to catch that misty morning fog that is oh so romantic...and with this gorgeous couple how could it go wrong!

Then we headed up to the Venice canals - what a fun place for engagement photos. You can even find the occasional duck or two to be in the pictures with you!

The funniest part was that Terren and Billy's schedule was so busy over the summer that their amazing wedding actually took place a week after our engagement session and I can't wait to share those images, coming soon!

Being a Connecticut girl living in Los Angeles, it had been a dream of mine to do a real, New England wedding. So when Emily and Matt asked me to photograph their wedding in the picture perfect, historic Newport, Rhode Island I was beside myself with excitement! Emily and Matt are the most wonderful couple and the whole weekend was filled with those delicious moments that I love to capture. Plus, Emily and Matt's wedding was at the spectacular OceanCliff but they were staying at the equally dreamy Castle Hill Inn , so we were able to use both amazing spots for photos.

Emily created the most perfect event with attention to every little detail. The navy, yellow and white color scheme was so perfectly New England that I felt right at home. I was absolutely honored to be able to capture it for them and can't wait to design their album!
